This property has lots of problems and is not as advertised. The solar panels did not provide 24 hour electricity. Both nights we were there, the electricity went... read more out after a few hours, so we sweltered through the night in the heat (there's no air conditioning). The next mornings we called Knox, who came over and my husband watched in horror as he started the back-up generator by touching two raw wires together. The generator, which is connected to a bank of batteries, sits in an oily pool in a filthy room behind the kitchen and is a huge fire hazard. We were eagerly looking forward to plucking the advertised fruit off the fruit trees in the garden and having it every day for breakfast, but there was NO fruit at all (except for a few limes) which was a huge disappointment. There are no shelves or hooks in the bathroom so we had to sit all our toiletries on the floor. The water in the kitchen sink came out in spurts and was brown, and we didn't dare drink it---it certainly wasn't the clear spring water advertised. We couldn't shut off one of the kitchen faucets. The two old washing machines in the back room don't work. The deck chairs were dirty, you can't close the door to the bathroom, and the string of lantern lights on the bed doesn't work. On the positive side, Knox was unfailingly helpful, the outdoor shower and the infinity pool were delightful, and the view was great. This could be a great property with some remedial repairs, but in its current condition we would not recommend it to anyone.
March 24, 2019Lomani was a wonderful experience! It is just like the pictures and the views are incredible! Loved the sunrise and sunset every day. Knox was also great! He picked us... read more up from the airport and took us to get groceries right away. He told us how to get around and what we should try to do around Taveuni (we snorkeled and loved it!) Knox also cut coconuts for us and showed us the different plants around Lomani. It was a great place to stay in Taveuni. Thanks Saskia!
October 31, 2018Beautiful cottage with amazing views. The photos really do no justice to the true beauty at Lomani. Saskia was incredibly helpful and the on-site help was absolutely amazing! The trip... read more was a wonderful experience!

March 24, 2019The house is cozy and the property is so stunningly beautiful it has to be seen to be believed! Knox and Kelera were also easy to contact and helpful, as... read more was Saskia. An absolute bucket list destination
November 25, 2023My husband and I just came back from a 10 night stay at Lomani. We decided to go to Fiji for our 10 year anniversary and we are so glad... read more we did! The location is absolutely amazing. The view cannot be beat. The house is situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean, making it ideal for watching the spectacular Fijian sunsets. If you are an early riser, you can also see the sunrise over the mountains behind the house. Taveuni is a remote island and is not over-developed. There are no hoards of tourists and barely any noise. If you like to get away from it all, this is the place for you. If you like going out at night, then I would go to a more developed island.
About the house: the property consists of two detached houses. One house is the living room, bedroom, bathroom and shower and the other house is the kitchen and dining area. This is a great set-up - having the kitchen separate keeps all the ants and small rodents out of the bedroom and living area. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to make your own meals. The pantry was stocked with many sauces, spices, condiments, and even teas. There is a nice sized fridge and even a gas grill. My husband went fishing and caught a bunch of tuna that we ended up eating for several days. We even made sushi/sashimi out of it. The island has clean drinking water so we drank straight from the sink. I filled up bottles with tap water and put them in the fridge to keep it nice and cold. The house does not have air conditioning. We went in May and were never hot without the A/C. At night, the temperature is about 75 degrees and all the locals were actually cold in this weather. We slept with the blanket on, windows open, and the fan running and were never uncomfortable. It felt like we were sleeping outdoors. We did not have any problems with electricity. The solar panels and the back-up generator provided power 24 hours a day. The generator is brand new and is now located in an elevated shed behind the property. The outdoor space is phenomenal. Huge deck with hammocks, a table with chairs, pool chairs, pool umbrella, and an infinity pool. The pool is a very good size and depth.
About the location: the house is located very close to the water. It is about a 5 minute walk down the hill. If you are expecting large sandy beaches, Taveuni does not have those. The island has small beaches during low tide. When it is high tide, the few beaches the island does have disappear. However, the island is surrounded by coral reef, making it ideal for snorkeling and fishing. The house comes with two glass bottom kayaks stored in a dive shop just down the hill. We kayaked and snorkeled off the kayak right in front of the house. We also did some line fishing off the kayak and got some fish for lunch. The water is super clear and warm. During low tide, you can walk on the beach and collect shells and lobsters. In addition to the beautiful ocean below the property, the house itself is situated on a huge plot of land. The entire area is like a large lush garden. Beautiful flowers everywhere and tons of fruit. Fruit is seasonal, so you will not have everything there at once. However, we had coconuts, papayas, tangerines, passion fruits and limes in May. If you want mangoes, you have to go in November/December.
About the people: The property manager Rosie and her brother Dan (as well as our housekeeper Lucia) were the most amazing people we have ever met. They went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one. They were very responsive, very thoughtful, and extremely helpful throughout our stay. They recommended places for us to see and made all the arrangements (waterfalls, island tours, etc.). They picked us up and drove us anywhere we needed to go. For my husband's birthday, Rosie and Dan surprised him with a homemade cake and a musician who played a Fijian birthday song for him. Dan took my husband fishing and taught him all the tricks to catching fish. My husband couldn't be happier when they caught a bunch of tuna! In the meantime, so I wouldn't be lonely, Lucia took me to her village and showed me around. The Fijian people are the friendliest people you will ever meet. They are so inviting and so happy. I had mentioned to Lucia that I love passion fruits, so the following day, and the days after, she would come to the house with a bunch of passion fruits! We were invited to a Kava ceremony at a local village where we got to meet the local people. It was truly an experience. For our anniversary, Rosie organized a traditional Lovo. The entire team helped with the preparation, they invited a musician who sang a special song for us on his guitar, and set up a romantic table for us. It was the best meal we have ever had and it was so romantic, so thoughtful, and made our anniversary so special. Perhaps the most memorable experience was when Rosie secured a boat for us and Dan and Lucia's husband took us on a tour of the islands. We went to several islands, got to snorkel the Rainbow Reef, got to see some of the most beautiful beaches, and even swan with the Manta Rays! We will never forget this trip and we will never forget the hospitality we received. We feel like we made a new family in Fiji and we hope to return someday soon. Vinaka!
May 25, 2019A beautiful, romantic, place to stay on our honeymoon! Peaceful and private with a beautiful view! We can’t help but mention the cute outdoor shower… it was amazing to shower... read more beneath the swaying palms and under the stars! Knox was very accommodating.

Lomani is an outstanding place to stay. Saskia's communication is quick and the info provided to guests is extremely useful. Knox was fantastic and showed us around the island and... read more took us where ever we needed to go. The dinner he cooked us on the last night was delicious. The facilities available including the kayaks and bikes are great for exploring too. Anyone going to Taveuni should definitely stay at Lomani
January 25, 2019Lomani is an idyllic retreat, a beautiful cottage in an amazing setting. Private, but close to as many fantastic activities as you might want to experience. Or just... read more enjoy the view.
September 5, 2018Lomani has amazing views, especially at sunset! My husband and I stayed here for 10 nights for our honeymoon. We absolutely loved the island of taveuni and the people there.... read more Saskia was very communicative before our trip which helped us prepare for it.
We rented this place for the privacy, however, while the location is fairly remote, they are undergoing renovations and the staff comes and goes throughout the day so it is not that private. The staff is very friendly and accommodating! One of the highlights of our trip was doing the Lovo with Lucia and her family our last night. Rosie is always available by phone which is provided for you at check in. They also transport you to and from the airport.
The location is between 2 cities, which is nice for privacy but does not fare well for the budget traveler due to the cost of using the Lomani car for rides. We heard from locals that the taxi would’ve been much cheaper if we had walked down the hill to the main road. 2 bikes are also provided. However they are very old and the chain kept slipping off during our rides...the staff was very sweet and often checked on us to make sure we had made it to our destination.
We tried the meal plan for 1 day and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. We were trying to save money so did not want this option every day. Nakia is the neighboring resort within walkable distance. Very affordable and also delicious food.
One thing to be aware is to make sure you ask the driver about any additional costs. He often invited us to things, such as his church for Sunday service or his village, and we were not told about the costs associated with it. It was phrased as an invitation. Also our WiFi did not work although Rosie did try to fix it.
Overall we had a great time! The pool and outdoor seating is amazing. The kayaks and bikes provided were a nice touch. Easy to fish the reef right down the hill from the house. During low tide you can also relax on the small beach there. Thank you all for a wonderful honeymoon vacation!

Lomani was amazing, as was Taveuni! But it is worth a little research to understand what adventure is in store for you!
Cottage - First, Lomani is... read more wonderful for a couple. Quiet, peaceful, comfortable with a great view, small pool and quaint sitting area outside. Cool breezes as night, warm afternoons. The house has phone, internet, bikes, kayaks, a full kitchen with cookware and comfortable sitting areas. Lomani also has a great staff (see below)! The cottage is walking distance to the water (I didn’t say “beach” because there really isn’t much traditional beach on Taveuni. The shores are lined with a sliver of sand and then 50m or so hard sharp dead coral you need to crunch over to get to the beautiful clear water beyond. Bring reef shoes!). We visited in the heart of the Southern Winter, so evenings were cool and windy - perfect for sleeping. The pool was refreshing after a long hot walk, but chilly at night. Lomani is very quite. Perfect for reading and relaxing. Aside from one nearby bar and restaurant (not really walking distance - particularly at night) there are really no other distractions so you can totally unwind. We went to bed shortly after sunset and awoke with the sunrise (different than our night-owl life in LA!) each night. The outdoor shower and bathroom is quaint and campy, albeit slighlty adventurous late at night if its really windy/rainy. Overall the experience was great, and when we return to Taveuni we would rather stay at Lomani than anywhere even closely priced on the island!
Taveuni - This island is slightly different than what we had expected, but we were pleasantly surprised. Coming from a big resort on Viti Levu, we knew that Tavenui would be quieter, but that is an understatement. There are no scooters or car rentals, so really no traffic noise. No shops. There are really only 2 or 3 restaurants nearby - all within a 5 min. car ride. And only 2 markets for groceries within 20 min drive. So you need to stock up on groceries for your stay. The only way around the island is by foot, bike, taxi or Captain Dan (Lomani’s private driver and truck). Having travelled to lots of small islands though the Pacific (Aitutaki, Huahine, Moorea, Bora Bora, etc.) and in the Caribbean (e.g., Saba, Bequia, and then tons of the more known islands), Taveuni was by far the quietest. But unspoiled and beautiful. And loaded with outdoor adventure options - we snorkeled off the shore, hired a boat for the day, kayaked in Lomani's glass bottom kayaks, hiked to the waterfall and walked 5 miles down the coast (best way to really get a feel for the island!). With only four days, we didn't want to miss anything, so we really didn't just relax around the house. Next time! It rained a bit every day and night in June - so the island was incredibly lush. Picturesque!
Team - Saskia was extremely responsive, flexible and helpful with our wonky schedule. Thank you! Dan ("Captain Dan”) was our driver, boat captain, Kava coach, gardener, restaurant guru and friend. He is supper happy, sweet and helpful and will accommodate any request with a big smile. Lucia takes care of the house and grounds and was very sweet and helpful. We were sad to leave!
Overall a great experience! Bula!

This place is perfect for a couple. Insane view, 3 minute walk to Taveuni Ocean Sports, 5 min to Nakia Resort, which has reasonable prices for food if you need... read more an easy and phenomenal dinner. This place isn't a pristine, cushy resort- but it's affordable, and it is beautiful and it's comfortable. The caretaker Knox will take you anywhere for a fair price and is incredibly knowledgable about the waterfalls (1.25 hour away), natural waterslides (15 min), horse back riding (25 min), beach 5 min walk. Fresh fruit on the property. Awesome place.

August 5, 2022The views can't be beat. Very romantic!! The infinity pool is amazing. Anyone who has stayed at one of the big name Caribbean all-inclusive resorts will certainly appreciate the value... read more here alone!! Saskia is one of the best hosts we've ever had the pleasure to work with, especially given that we were communicating across 5 time zones!! We stayed much longer that many guests (16 days). Whenever we had issues at the home she was on it immediately. She definitely cares very deeply about her guests. Taveuni is a remote island to be sure. Be ready to unplug & enjoy "Fiji time". If you have spent any time at all in the South Seas AWAY FROM THE RESORTS then you'll get it completely. This is a little slice of heaven, raw & unhurried. Divers will certainly appreciate the proximity of the awesome dive operator at the bottom of the hill!!
February 11, 2019This place has million dollars views a very private pool and is quite provided no fault of the owner if the next door neighbors don’t go out of town... read more they leave there dogs and they do bark. We love dogs and Apparently he knew that and hung out with us the 12 of the days we were there. We loved it was very close to Taveuni Ocean Sports just a short walk away great dive operation. Also Nakia resort which is walking distance to have dinner if you don’t want to cook****. They are Affiliated with Julie dive shop owner *****. The bikes are great to ride into town and get supplies and visit with the wonderful Fiji people the safest and friendly people we have come across in our travels. The kayak are also a plus. Caretaker Knox and his wife as well as Tukana’s and his wife are wonderful people. It’s a very special place. It does need some TLC especially on the decks my foot fell through and I broke my toe and stairs and water heaters so be careful. Saskia was always available right away on questions but maintenance needs to be done to bring it back to its former self. We both enjoy our stay and just loved all the wonderful people and just awesome diving and general relaxing and lounging at the pool. We made fresh papaya juice everyday wonderful. Another plus is the nice spring water we did boil it and then refrigerate it just to be safe. I would come back and would recommend this place to our friends hoping Saskia will have those items repaired so it safe for all future guests.

July 5, 2019We had SUCH an amazing stay at Lomani. All the staff was super nice and helpful. View, pool, and the fact that it’s a private property were the best... read more parts.
Only complaints are about the house itself just being a little old and with no air con, which on hot humid nights made it hard to sleep. The bug net above the bed had some holes/ tears in it, and the inside of the house was pretty buggy when we arrived, especially the bathroom. Tons of ants just all over the walls, and same in the kitchen. We didnt mind too much (considering there are so many fruit trees and hibiscus around which ants LOVE) but it brings the value of what we paid per night down a little for me. Not sure what there is to do about all that except a major renovation, so maybe in the future they’ll be able to do that. I think that would really put this place over the edge.
But overall, amazing people, amazing views, and we really enjoyed our stay!

Thanks for a wonderful time .
August 18, 2018Lomani is truly a magical place, and my husband and I were glad we spent 6 nights there to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Taveuni is a wonderful, quirky... read more place - a very different feel than the other islands we visited, and these idiosyncrasies are part of what make Lomani a unique and beautiful experience. The absolute best thing about it is the people.
The property is expansive, lush and gorgeous. Actually, it’s so beautiful it’s almost absurd. When I posted photos on Facebook everyone said they didn’t look real - like a travel mag photo shoot - but it really is that beautiful there. The whole place is designed to be comfortable and it is - the bed is great, the furniture indoors and outdoors is ideal for relaxing. The kitchen has the amenities needed to prep basic meals.
Fijians are wonderful, warm, welcoming people, but the people you encounter at Lomani are beyond compare. They balanced thoughtfulness and attentiveness with being respectful of our privacy. Anything we needed, at any time, was not a problem. Rides, tours, boating, stops to pick up food - they were accommodating, flexible and generous. Rosie and Dan felt like family within a few days. One day we were out and my husband’s back and neck were giving him trouble - within just a few hours Rosie arranges to have massage therapist set up waiting for us upon our return.
The meal plan option is absolutely worth it. Food for tourists varies greatly in its quality in Fiji, but every meal they prepared for us was excellent, and we say that as foodies who have traveled extensively. The table was set beautifully (and differently each time!) and we enjoyed our flavourful, fresh meals looking out over the sea. The chefs who come know how to source the best local ingredients. You get professional chefs, but also fish that someone’s auntie or cousin or neighbour caught just a few hours ago, and spinach from someone’s garden. The varied and abundant fruit comes right from the property. Absolutely be sure request the Lovo dinner one night - what an experience! Also, make use of their offers to take you snorkeling, exploring, etc. We were so glad we did. We are both introverts and prefer to travel just us, but we got a lot more out of it because Rosie and Dan know every inch of the island and the straights. They are also just easy-going, wonderful, fun and considerate people to be around.
So clearly, as you can see in the photos, this place is dripping in luxury for a very reasonable price. However, as much as it looks like a resort and offers the amenities of a resort (and more!) you need to be aware that in some ways this place is very rustic...which they are upfront about, but one look at those photos and those services and it is easy to forget - it is NOT a resort. While previous reviews have mentioned power, this was not an issue for us. However, guests should know that not only is the shower open, the rest of the bathroom basically is too. There is a roof, and it is enclosed for privacy, but it is all open to the outdoor shower. This place leaves you feeling very connected to Mother Nature. The ocean breeze streams through, but more blustery wind comes through too at times. I loved it - being in tune to all the nuances and moods of Mother Nature - but it isn’t for everyone. The windows are screened, but nature still comes and goes, so if you are going to lose your mind over some geckos on the ceiling in the evening (who chirp and offer the service of eating any bugs that night make their way inside) or, as I discovered one hilarious night, a toad in the bathroom, you may want to go stay at a sanitized resort where there is a tight seal around your sliding glass doors and they spray for bugs and everything is very manicured and the wilderness is much less present. It’s a trade off that may or may not suit you. This means you don’t get as many birds, or as much lush, wild, natural beauty, and so you don’t get the full Taveuni experience. If you are looking for a balance luxury and connection to nature, this is the place for you.
July 14, 2019Positives and negatives:
1. It’s fairly secluded but the neighbor was running a weed eater much of the time we were there
2. It’s not entirely secure. The doors... read more lock, but a hard pull seems to pry them open.
3. Knox and his wife were great. Traditional Fijian dinner was great too.
4. Mosquitoes were terrible and at least one screen had holes and the mosquito net had many holes.
5. The kitchen isn’t screened in, so rodents of some sort left droppings on the counter.
6. The shower is outdoors, so you may have mosquitoes while you’re washing off the big spray.
7. We didn’t mind it, but be prepared for geckos, toads, and roaches indoors, and bats and spiders outdoors.
8. It’s entirely too hot in February without AC.
9. Running both fans overnight was enough to use up all the electricity from the generator and solar panel in the middle of the night.
10. It is an absolutely beautiful location.
11. If you plan to eat and not cook, make sure you call ahead to warn wherever you plan to go. Don’t stop by any restaurant or resort and expect them to serve you.

View and hospitality more than made up for the itchy bits...!
